शास्त्रों में (वैदिक) महत्व:

चरक संहिता के “विडंगो कृमिघ्नानाम्” सूत्र में विदंग को जीवाणु एवं विषाणु नाशक बताया गया है। सुश्रुत संहिता के “सर्वोपधात्शमनीय” अध्याय में उन औषधियों का वर्णन है जो सभी प्रकार के दोषजनित रोगों से रक्षा करती हैं। यह औषधि शरीर से विष तत्व (विषTatva), विषाणु के अवशेषों को बाहर निकालने में अत्यंत प्रभावी है।

प्रासंगिक मंत्र:

“तत्र विडंग तण्डुलचूर्णमाहृत्य यष्टिमधुयुक्तं यथाबलं चानूपिबेत्।”

(अर्थात – विदंग के चूर्ण को यष्टिमधु के साथ मिलाकर, क्षमता अनुसार सेवन करना चाहिए।)
