आयुर्वेद के विभिन्न ग्रंथों में भोजन के बाद सेवनीय विविध पदार्थों का निरूपण बताया है। उसमें जायफल, जावंत्री, लोंग, इलाइची, यष्टिमधु इत्यादि पाचक रसवाली औषधियों नागरवेल के पान के साथ सेवन करने से अनेक लाभ प्राप्त होते है।
नागरवेल का पान वर्षों से भारतीय संस्कृति से जुड़ा है, प्राय: सभी पूजा में तथा भगवान को भोग लगाने में पान का उपयोग होता है। पान में पाचक स्त्राव बढाने का गुण है, साथ में पान में Antiseptic और Anti Bacterial Property होने के कारण घाव की चिकित्सा में भी पान का प्रयोग होता है।
