Why is Bhadwa (Bhadrapada Month) Ghee Miraculous?
This year, the Bhadrapada month will be from 23rd August to 22nd September 2025.
“Bhadwa Ghee”
Ghee made from Indian desi cow milk…
By the time Bhadrapada arrives, grasses fully mature.
What we commonly call grass are actually extremely rare medicinal herbs.
Among them, Dhaman is most loved by cows – clean, strong fodder that grows near fields and pathways.
Sewan is another type of tufted grass, and Ganthiya is a solid root-based plant.
Other herbs like Murat, Bhurat, Bekar, Kanti, Gramna, Makhni, Koori, Jherniya, Sanawdi, Chidki ka khet, Hade ka khet, Lamp, etc., also flourish during this time.
If the rains arrive on time, these herbs grow explosively on fallow land, nourished by the energy of the Rohini Nakshatra.
After two Shukla Paksha lunar phases, the moon’s nectar-like energy gets absorbed in these herbs, significantly increasing their medicinal potency.
Cows walk for at least 2 kos (about 6 km), graze freely, and return in the evening to rest.
They ruminate throughout the night, converting this herbal nectar into milk.
This milk becomes highly nourishing.
From this milk, curd is made and churned to extract yellowish butter.
This butter is then heated to prepare Ghee – the Bhadwa Ghee.
This Ghee is deeply yellow, highly fragrant, and extremely therapeutic.
-
If you have plenty – eat it.
-
If little – apply a drop in the nose.
-
Got it on your hands? Rub it on your face.
-
Massage into your scalp or drink it with milk.
-
Eat it with meals.
-
Elderly can apply it on knees and soles.
-
Perfect for pregnant women.
No additives needed – this ghee already carries the pure essence of all herbs!
Using this ghee for havan (rituals), deity worship, and ancestral offerings (shraddh) pleases the environment, the gods, and the ancestors alike.
The quality of this ghee improves further when:
Cows graze freely in the pastures
-
Drink pond water rich in vitamin D
-
The butter is hand-churned in earthen pots
The same cows, the same Bhadwa month, and the same grasses still exist today.
If we still fail to preserve this sacred practice, who will be responsible?
When there are no cows…Where will the ghee come from…? A thought to ponder… 🙏🙏
